Artesia Public Schools will again cancel school on Thursday, January 29.
We understand that many of the main roads in town are clear; however, numerous side streets and country roads remain icy and unsafe. While our staff and the City of Artesia have worked extremely hard to improve road conditions, these continued icy areas make travel concerning. Our top priority is always the safety of our students, staff, and families.
We are hopeful that Friday will be a different story and that we will be able to welcome our students back to school.
Please note that students are required to attend school for a specific number of instructional hours. APS has built in some extra hours; however, moving forward, we will need to make up missed days. We will share specific make-up day information with families as soon as those details are finalized.
I sincerely apologize for our students having to stay home another day. We truly miss them and look forward to having them back in our classrooms.
Please stay tuned for updates regarding Friday. Thank you for your continued understanding.
Mrs. Darian Jaramillo
While main roads throughout our area are clear, many side residential roads remain icy and snow-packed. At this time, these conditions are not safe for our buses, and we do not want to put any students, families, or staff in harm’s way.
Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to cancel school again on Wednesday, January 28. We sincerely apologize for the continued snow days and appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize safety.
We are hopeful that sunshine and warmer temperatures will help melt the snow and ice in the coming days. Please continue to watch for updates as conditions improve.
Thank you for your continued support.

Artesia Public Schools Closure – Tuesday, January 27
Due to continued icy road conditions in residential areas and on country roads, along with below-freezing morning temperatures, Artesia Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 27. Please continue to monitor your phone, email, and social media for any additional updates.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
APS Families,
Due to the icy conditions and dangerously cold temperatures, Artesia Public Schools will be canceled on Monday, January 26.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Given these conditions, we believe closing schools is the safest decision.
We will continue to evaluate road conditions throughout Monday. Please continue to monitor district communications for any further updates.
Stay safe and warm!
Mrs. Darian Jaramillo
