The occupational therapist and COTA’s have developed packets and/or provided online activities and resources for students who receive occupational therapy. If you have not received the activities or information, please contact your child’s therapist. Each therapist will be contacting you weekly to discuss how the activities are working and to answer any questions you may have regarding the therapy activities. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are not sure who your child’s occupational therapist is. You may also leave a message at (575) 746-2777, and someone will return your phone call.
As you prepare to care for your children at home, I want to share some resources from the American Heart Association to keep everyone active and healthy during this time.
Below are some great activities and resources to keep everyone learning and staying active at home.
- Download the Free Kids Heart Challenge app. Under the Games tab, students can play heart hero drop, color AR, and more.
- If you haven’t completed Finn’s mission in the Kids Heart Challenge app, do so to learn the warning signs of a stroke, hands-only CPR, etc.
- Kids Heart Challenge has a fun interactive heart-healthy bingo that families can plan at home.
- Choose your grade level and use these lesson plans by grade level.
- Use these worksheets to learn about how and why taking care of your heart is important.
- Fruit & Vegetable Funnies
- Healthy Heart Predictions
- Wacky Word Games
- Make a Heart Hero Bookmark
- Take the family fun outside and use these videos to learn fun new jump roping skills with single and double ropes.
- Learn about the anatomy of the heart. Discuss with your child how important the heart is for our overall health and how eating healthy and staying active can keep it strong!
- We also have 25 ways to keep moving at home – but can you think of others? Share your ideas with us by posting to social media with hashtag #kidsheartchallenge, #movemore, and #americanheartassociation.
- Get cooking! Create family activity emails, cooking lessons, recipe ideas, and more!
- Join our Kids Heart Challenge Facebook page.
Mr. Jordan Stearnes has provided individual student packets for each of the students who receive physical therapy as part of their IEP. He is also contacting parents weekly to discuss the activities and your child’s response. He is available to answer any questions you have and to offer suggestions and supports for working with your child at home during this time. You may email Mr. Stearnes, or call him at (575) 746-2777 and leave a message.
Your child’s speech therapist has put together some speech and language activities for your child to continue to work on during this time. If you have not received the activities or information, please contact your child’s therapist. Each therapist will be contacting you weekly to discuss how things are going and answer any questions you may have regarding the therapy activities. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are not sure who your child’s speech therapist is. You may also leave a message at (575) 746-2777, and someone will return your phone call.
